I have been favoring monochrome photography for quite a while now. Although converting an image to black & white means stripping it from some creative options, I feel that I can be more creative creating black & white images. Maybe this is because it forces me to consciously make some decisions concerning the composition, brightness, darkness, contrast, depth and – most importantly – the mood all of these decisions create in the image. And of some reasons, most of the time I prefer the the black & white version of a photo over its color twin.
Sometimes, however, I think both shots are equally good, though sometimes in different ways. I put together a nice little slideshow showing the transition from color to black & white for a couple of images from various photographic genres. I created the slideshow in Apple Aperture, although I guess that this simple slideshow could even be done in Adobe Lightroom. Many of these images can be found on my FlickR.
Now sit back and enjoy the show…
