I like macro shots that not one show small details that might otherwise go unnoticed (although this in itself can be very appealing), but that also have an abstract quality to them, so that lines, shapes and curves add another level of interestingness on top of the magnification that comes with macro photography. In today’s picture, the petals of this flower (a gerbera) resemble the top part of a sun with its rays – at least in my weird mind. Hence the title: Sunrise.
I also made a monochrome version of this shot, even though it doesn’t resemble a sun anymore. It has its own beauty to me is created by the shape of the petals and the grainy film like processing. I did it in Nik Silver Efex Pro, starting of with Fine Art High Key preset and then adding the Fuji Acros 100 film emulation on top of that. Some more clicks in Silver Efex and Lightroom finalized the image. Here it is:
